Die "Carmina Burana" ist eine Sammlung mittelalterlicher Lieder und Dramen in lateinischer und mittelhochdeutscher Sprache, die 1803 im Kloster Benediktbeuern entdeckt wurde. Die Texte, die auch als "Beurer Lieder" bekannt sind, sind eine Mischung aus moralisch-satirischen Dichtungen, Liebesliedern, Trink- und Spielerliedern sowie geistlichen Spielen. Die Handschrift selbst ist kunstvoll mit Miniaturen ausgestattet, die den Inhalt der Texte widerspiegeln.
