Richard Strauss

Richard Strauss

Richard Georg Strauss (born June 11, 1864 in Munich; died September 8, 1949 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen) was a German composer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who was best known for his orchestral program music (tone poems), his songs, and his operas. Strauss was also an important conductor and theater director, as well as a champion of copyright reform. He is considered one of the Romantic composers, despite the time gap between him and the other artists of the era.
