Every summer, Bayreuth is the cultural center of Richard Wagner's music - after all, the development of the festival idea and the creation of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen are closely linked. It all began when Richard Wagner was court conductor in Dresden. The Bayreuth Festival, or Richard Wagner Festival, takes place in the Festspielhaus on the “Green Hill” in Bayreuth, which Richard Wagner and Otto Brückwald created especially for this purpose in 1872. Then as now, the Bayreuth Festival has made the city just as internationally renowned as the participating performers and artists.
