Jonas Kaufmann

Since his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 2006 in Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata, Jonas Kaufmann has been one of the biggest stars in classical music and is currently considered the most important German tenor. After studying mathematics for several semesters, the Munich native graduated from the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich in 1994 with a degree in opera and concert singing. After gaining his first stage experience at the Saarländisches Staatstheater in Saarbrücken, he went on to perform in Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Milan. In 2001, he joined the Zurich Opera. From there, his international career took off with performances at the Salzburg Festival, the Lyric Opera Chicago, the Paris Opera, Covent Garden Opera in London, La Scala in Milan, the Deutsche Oper and Staatsoper in Berlin, the Vienna State Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In addition to his opera work, Jonas Kaufmann regularly performs as a concert singer and has released numerous albums.
