Joseph Calleja
At just 19 years of age, Joseph Calleja made his debut in 1997 in his native Malta as Macduff in Giuseppe Verdi's Macbeth. In the years that followed, he won numerous singing competitions, including the Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition, which helped him achieve his international breakthrough. In 2000, he made his debut in Toronto in the role of Rodolfo in Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème. The tenor subsequently made his debut at numerous international opera houses. He received his first Grammy nomination for his interpretation of Alfredo in La traviata at the Royal Opera House in London, which was recorded in 2009. Today, Calleja sings in major operas and concerts worldwide and, with his unique velvety voice, is one of the most sought-after tenors of our time.
